Cork and Fin
A few days after L’Abattoir I finally made it back to Cork and Fin with a few colleagues;
We ordered using their $39.95 pp menu which was, unsurprisingly, a large amount of food.
They’ve had a menu change since I was there so you won’t find any of the below there anymore but boy were most of them great.
We started with the Tuna Crudo, Chicken Liver Parfait and the beet salad.
The crudo was amazing, a fresh soft, velvety tuna that was well paired with each accompanying flavour on the plate.
The beet salad was also super simple; 5 ingredients that melded together to form a light and tantalising dish.
The disappointment of the entrée’s was the chicken parfait; while the bread, figs and pickles were on point the actual parfait was far too dense and flavoured very heavily with nutmeg that brought the dish down to an almost unenjoyable level.
The mains came out after that; we’d ordered the Beef Short rib with smashed potatoes, the Lobster and the Red Shrimp tagliatelle.
I started with the short rib; done in a balsamic vinegar reduction it was unbelievably soft with great flavour; my favourite part was the sauce that dripped onto the unbelievably crisp and fluffy potatoes.
The lobster was up next and I was slightly disappointed; it was overcooked and not as flavourful as the list of ingredients had lead me to believe. An unfortunate and unappealing surprise.
Lastly the pasta, a bowl of aldente pasta with plump juicy shrimp with nothing but a simple cream sauce to tie everything together.
A classic and delicious dish.
Overall, 2 out of 3 per a course isn’t bad and while the food wasn’t mind blowing; for the price it was a great feed.
